Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd. together with the Global Compact Network Thailand (GCNT) hosted the ‘Thailand Talent Talk Episode 2’ seminar to highlight the importance of cybersecurity in Thailand. Gathering leaders from various organizations and associations to discuss new approaches to promote cybersecurity and working with strategic partners to provide training to accelerate digital workforce development in Thailand underlining Huawei’s commitment to drive cybersecurity technology.
Mr. Surachai Chatchalermpun, Country Cyber Security & Privacy Officer, Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd. explained in ‘Thailand Talent Talk Episode 2: Building Talent Foundation for an Open, Transparent, and Collaborative Cyber Space’ that “As a trusted ICT partner and social value contributor, Huawei is committed to build an open and collaborative cyber space with partners. Now the world including Thailand is facing cyber workforce shortage challenges in the Digital world, especially in all CII (Critical Information Infrastructure) sectors. Huawei will continue working with NCSA and the telecom industry in Thailand to develop cybersecurity workforces, by promoting ‘Thailand Cyber Top Talent’ competition and key technology development, covering global trends such as 5G, Cloud, Mobile and Cybersecurity Leadership skills. We also aim to engage in cybersecurity talent development and promote knowledge sharing.”
He also added that Huawei will support Thailand’s ‘To secure the nation’ initiative, by establishing and delivering sustainable cybersecurity trainings to increase Thailand cybersecurity capability covering 4 levels, i.e., Basic, Intermediate, Advanced and Expert. Huawei will support cyber training courses through the global platform called Huawei E-Lab, which aims to help increase cyber capabilities by providing various security workshops and completing practice-based learning such as cyber operational exercises and network security simulations.
Air Vice Marshal Amorn Chomchoey, Secretary General of National Cybersecurity Agenda (NCSA) gave an interview at the event that: “As Thailand and countries around the world are facing cybersecurity talented shortage, one of NCSA’s missions is to urgently develop cybersecurity workforce. NCSA aims to promote cybersecurity culture through personnel development, including building essential skills for cybersecurity personnel in various organizations, both public and private sectors especially in Critical Information Infrastructure (CII) sector. We will also raise awareness of cybersecurity threats among students and Thai people to build a high-quality cybersecurity talent in Thailand”
Ms. Kanokon Chawang, Division Director of Telecommunication Enforcement Bureau, National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) said that the Division Director of Telecommunication Enforcement Bureau has achieved 3 important missions according to the Cyber Security Act B.E. 2562 (2019) (the “CSA”) as follow: 1) Establishing the TTC-CERT 2) Establishing the Telecommunications Critical Information Infrastructure (CII) 3) Establishing best practices and the cybersecurity framework for the Telecommunications Critical Information Infrastructure aiming to elevate the cybersecurity regulations in telecommunications to meet national and global standards.
Mr. Santi Siritheerajesd, Child Protection Specialist, UNICEF Thailand emphasized in the seminar that: “Children are the capital of Thailand. They are the present and future of the country. While children in Thailand gain more learning and social opportunities through their increased exposure to the online world, they are also facing emerging threats from online child sexual abuse and exploitation (OCSEA) as well as data privacy issues. Having well-functioned cybersecurity that shields children from harm are one of the key components to keeping children safe online.”
According to Cybersecurity Ventures, damages from cybercrime might reach $6 trillion dollars in 2021. During the pandemic, people are spending more time working online. Therefore, the public sector needs to implement new laws and regulations to prevent the cybercrime. In June 2022, Thailand’s Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) was released as the first Thai law designed to govern data protection in the digital age. In addition, the telecommunications sector, the ICT industry, and regulators are collaborating to promote unified security standards while private companies are taking measures to strengthen their cybersecurity capacity.
Huawei and GCNT hosted ‘Thailand Talent Talk Episode 2’ to enhance knowledge and increase cybersecurity capability in Thailand, as well as building an open platform to discuss challenges, best practices, and develop new approaches to nurture cybersecurity talent. This seminar will also underline Huawei’s commitment to raise public awareness and reinforce cybersecurity and personal information protection. Recently, Huawei Thailand received prestigious Prime Minister Awards – Thailand Cybersecurity Excellence Award 2022 – and collaborated in a series of cybersecurity-related initiatives such as the ‘Thailand National Cyber Week’ and the ‘Cyber Defense Initiative’ Conference. Huawei also joined the NCSA to launch the ‘Thailand Cyber Top Talents 2021’, for the first time in Thailand to provide cybersecurity training to 800 IT students and personnel.
