Digital Skill Development Academy and Huawei Launch Mobile App Development Online Course

The Digital Skill Development Academy (DISDA), under the Ministry of Labour’s Department of Skill Development (DSD), in collaboration with Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co. Ltd. today launched its first online Mobile App Development Course, a learning platform that aims to enhance digital skill development for over 200 motivated digital talents.

This educational project entitled “Mobile App Development Course,” is in line with the three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the DSD and Huawei in October 2020 to create and facilitate learning opportunities in the digital landscape. Based on this MoU, Huawei will use its leading technologies to strengthen Thailand’s digital workforce, aiming to produce 3,000 digital skilled workers and 120 DSD personnel through ICT courses.

Also in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour, in February 2021, Huawei and DISDA kicked off the first seminar entitled “Enhance Business and Industry with Digital Technology Skill Development,” to share knowledge with over 100 entrepreneurs on the latest ICT technologies. Since then, the two parties have been actively exploring new areas of knowledge exchange and capacity-building in digital talent cultivation, including this new course on Mobile App Development.

This 48-hour intensive course, held on Saturdays and Sundays from June 5 to 27, will teach participants to develop, create and customize mobile apps for Android operating system and Huawei App Gallery. Each 6-hour session will cover integrated skills content and cutting-edge solutions needed to keep up with surging mobile device usage. This opportunity to pass on knowledge and passion will help build a strong foundation for a digital talent pool to ensure that Thailand can match the growing demand in the future.

The program is open to young IT students, and application developers with a keen interest in creating mobile apps and a drive to be part of the country’s digital ecosystem. Perfectly adapted to learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, these online courses will ensure the continuity of an IT workforce with skills that are highly in demand, and help the country achieve its goal of becoming the Asia Pacific region’s digital hub. It will include theoretical lectures, advanced app writing, demonstrations and best practices in the industry, as well as hands-on guidance from international and local industry experts, advisors and trainers.

After completing 4 weeks of end-to-end application development and meeting all requirements, participants will receive their official DISDA certificates.  In addition, those who pass Huawei’s acquired skills test will receive a Huawei certification recognized by international companies, and a chance to join Huawei’s global Apps Up Contest 2021 to win prizes worth total USD 1 million.

During her welcome address, Prof. Narumon Pinyosinwat, Deputy Labour Minister, explained the government’s “Create – Raise – Promote” policy to develop the digital workforce under the Ministry of Labour. “We would like to equip more Thai people with skills to support the development of S-curve industries, raise competency and promote job opportunities,” she said. “I am confident that this online training course will be very helpful to build and develop skills that all participants can use in their occupations and earn more in the new normal, which many countries including Thailand are adjusting to. This is a crucial starting point to prepare our IT workforce to support sustainable digitalization.”

Mr. Abel Deng, CEO of Huawei Thailand, said: “We are delighted to work with DISDA and the Ministry of Labour, and would like to thank our esteemed partners for their longstanding cooperation”.  Under the mission ‘Grow in Thailand, Contribute to Thailand’, Huawei hopes to continuously develop new talent for the digital ecosystem through more partnerships with the government and ICT practitioners. This will help build a solid, stable and sustainable foundation for a skilled talent pool that will drive the country’s digital economy in line with the Thailand 4.0 policy.”

As a leading global provider of ICT infrastructure and smart devices which has remained strong local presence in Thailand for 22 years, Huawei is committed to being part of Thailand’s digital future, aimed to drive Thailand to realize its visionary Thailand 4.0 blueprint and become the ASEAN digital hub.

Lastly, Huawei is dedicated to continuously contributing social values to Thai society. To help cultivate Thailand’s digital talent, Huawei initiates the Huawei ASEAN Academy (Thailand) with the target to produce 50000 ICT talent in 5 years. In September 2020, in alignment with the Ministry of Labor’s long-term job creation scheme, Huawei participated Job Expo Thailand and promised to offer around 1,000 job opportunities through a quick and easy application process to boost economic recovery.

In order to acknowledge Huawei Thailand for its continuous contributions to Thailand economy and society, Thailand Prime Minister’s Office has given Huawei Thailand the Prime Minister Award as Digital International Corporation of the Year as the only foreign company. In the ceremony, the Prime Minister congratulated Huawei executives and asked them to continue the mission to drive Thailand forward.
