This initiative highlights young innovators through collaboration with the Embassy of Sweden in Thailand, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, Faculty of Engineering of King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL), and SK Tes Thailand Co., Ltd. From “Idea Seeds” to Opportunities for Growth into “Inno Trees”
A strong idea seed will grow and branch out into an innovation tree. The “e-Waste HACK BKK 2024” project has selected the final 3 winning high school teams with outstanding ideas to revive e-waste, showcasing the potential for future societal innovations:
- Winner : Air Purifier Development Idea: A carbon capture device using Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology to produce Ethylene gas for industries like chemicals and plastics, helping reduce massive electronic waste and carbon dioxide emissions from factories from Team One Day Miracle plus+, Visuttharangsi School, Kanchanaburi Province.
- The 1st Runner-up : PM 2.5 Dust Filter Idea: An air filter that adjusts its filtration capabilities automatically based on dust levels, featuring an app for tracking dust levels at bus stations and alerts displayed on a mobile widget to address Bangkok’s air pollution, which ranked third in the world in 2023 from Team Undustrial, Chonkanyanukoon School, Chonburi Province.
- The 2nd Runner-up : A clinic booth providing basic health measurements (temperature, height, weight, blood pressure) and telemedicine consultations, addressing limited access to public health services in some areas of Bangkok and reducing travel to healthcare facilities from Team XTremeX, Darunsikkhalai School, Sirirattanathorn School, Udomsuksa School, Bangkok and Saraburiwitthayakhom School, Saraburi Province.
Inno Trees: Ready-to-Use Solutions Addressing Urban Lifestyles
After over 3 months of innovation creation, the final 3 university teams, which advanced to the finals with prototype development funding, have undergone rigorous testing and are now ready for real-world application. The 3 winning university teams in the Final Pitch round on Demo Day featured:
- Winner: Intelligence Bin: A smart trash bin that sorts waste using imaging technology and AI to separate trash from the background and other objects, with alerts for when it’s full, addressing urban waste overflow issues resulted in the environmental pollutions from Team Pakkapok, Khon Kaen University.
- The 1st Runner-up : AI EYE System: A safety monitoring system on the roads that detects traffic rule violations, controls smart traffic lights with AI & IoT, as well as collects data to reduce accidents and traffic congestion from Team AiHUB, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang.
- The 2nd Runner-up : BKK BIN+: An intelligent trash bin which is capable of sorting waste into four categories (wet, general, plastic & glass bottles, cans) with a reward points system and alerts when it’s full to tackle Bangkok’s significant waste problem resulted in the environmental issues from Team IoT E-Waste, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang.
